Finally! We woke up to a beautiful sunny day in Taichung on our 4th day in Taiwan! We went to Basianshan National Forest to do some hiking and drink tea. It was so gorgeous. The trees are so densely populated here, and I love their shade of green!
With cousin, her husband and son (he's the really tall and skinny one, he's so cute), aunt and uncles
You know I love creeks!
My cousin's husband is crazy, he insisted on climbing the tree so the visitors from America can taste how sweet the Taiwanese fruit is. I don't know how he got up there, the branches are so thin.
I'm glad we got to eat the fruit though, they really were sweet, and they're pink inside! I think it's a kind of bah-lah.
Views from the hiking trails
The mountainsides used to be all green and full of trees. The 'dirt' areas were splits caused by a major earthquake a few years ago that did a lot of damage in Taichung.
We hiked down to the bottom where there were a few teahouses for us to sit in, chat, make hot tea, and pig out on munchies and fruits.
For the most part, the English translations have been very accurate, particularly in the cities. Apparently this wasn't one of them. I think they meant to say 'Deep water; no swimming allowed'
It took some effort to get on top of this rock!
Afterwards, we went to Gu Guan and hiked for about an hour. My camera battery died at this point, hence the lack of pictures. Wow, it was a really difficult hike, the steps were so steep that every few minutes I had to stop to rest. We passed by a hot spring, so I took a picture of what one looked like. The one we went to was nicer and less crowded than this one though :)
