My 28th Birthday!!!

About a month ago, I was dreading my 28th birthday. Twenty-eight!!! Where did the time go and what have I been doing all these years?! But then I realized that if I'm depressed about my birthday then no one will want to celebrate it with me, haha. So I decided to embrace it and just be thankful that I still look 21 :)

First of all, I want to thank everyone who wished me a happy birthday today. I felt really, really special and loved. A few hours before my actual birthday, I was having a duo birthday dinner with my girlfriends (I'll post those pictures soon) in the city, so that was a great lead-in! Then 12:01am I get my first happy birthday text. I got home a few minutes later and both my parents were still up. They gave me a big hug and a really nice card. I stayed up for a bit catching up on some emails, and by the time I went to bed at 2am, I already had several 'happy birthdays', albeit via the internet. The next morning, I was running late and risked not having a parking spot in the lot. And what do you know - there was ONE spot left, the spot closest to the bus stop so I had the least possible amount of walking to do. Throughout the day today, the wall posts and texts continued, and I am very appreciative of course, but it felt strange because I was at work all day. It was a really busy day, and only 1 co-worker of mine knew that it was my birthday. I didn't feel it was appropriate to just announce it to everyone. So while it felt like it was my birthday 'electronically' - in person, in reality, it didn't feel like my birthday. I did get a really thoughtful gift today though. It's a book that belonged to my friend and was really relevant to conversations that we've had a lot over the last few months.

My boss from my previous job somehow remembered (even though I haven't talked to him in a year) that it was my birthday and called me the day before. I was amazed! And a friend whom I haven't seen in a long time emailed and said, it's your birthday today isn't it?! I like surprises - it's very hard to surprise me, haha. I am also shocked at how much people use Facebook - if people I don't even talk to post on my wall ON my birthday, they must be signed on ALL the time, even at work.

So I had wanted to take off of work today, but we were having a photo shoot for a new website. Our website looks like a 10 year old designed it in 1980. And our bosses really went all out to find a professional team of photographers and makeup artist. The lady who did my makeup did an amazing job - she had like 20 shades of foundation spread out on the table, I think she carried all of the makeup in a huge suitcase. She was really helpful too - giving me hints and telling me what color I should use, etc. We chatted while she worked, and she told me that she did Tom Cruise's makeup a week ago. That's pretty awesome, huh? Yea, so she's really good and so I asked for her card in case I ever get married and need makeup done. She probably charges a lot though. So after my makeup session, I had to go through these different poses and smile for some 50-60 pictures. My mouth started hurting and twitching after every 10 pictures. The photographers had so much equipment - the backdrop, these umbrella looking things, lights, it was really professional. I thought it was kind of fun - but a bit intimidating to be in the center of attention.

I tried to get home as soon as possible to have dinner with my parents - and I got the second to the last seat on the bus. My mom cooked many yummy dishes and of course, we had to have the traditional long-life-noodles for birthdays. Then we had a mixed fruit cake with coffee. We got a little silly when we sang Happy Birthday to me.

Dignified dinner picture - yes, I'm wearing pajama pants - it's the only way to be comfortable after a long day at work :)

Isn't it such a cute cake? I'm turning 1!

The silliness began when we started singing ....

... and continued ...

Yay for cake!

This has been an awesome birthday week - probably the best I've ever had. I am so blessed to be surrounded by family and friends who love and care about me :) I am hopeful for another year of exciting adventures and new things! More pictures from other birthday celebrations this week to come soon!

*I have a million things that I want to post, I just have a million other things that I have to do first these days, so hopefully soon I will get to catch up again. Seriously, I need 30 hours a day or the superhero power to not need sleep!*
